WORDS IN ACTION is an advocacy based monthly book subscription service powered by Park Books & LitCoLab, an independent bookstore in Severna Park, MD. This unique book subscription box features a surprise, monthly deliveries of books selected by notable authors and librarians. These are the books that they think we should all be reading. In your first year, you will receive banned books and all the advocacy information. After year one, you will receive a banned/challenged book and information about the banning along with access to letter templates you can use to advocate. There are various subscription types but each will include educational materials that will help you to advocate for change.
We generally ship subscription boxes in the middle of the month. Any subscription purchased before the end of the prior month can expect to receive shipping confirmation by the 15th of the month. Example: If you pay for your subscription by the last day of December, you will receive shipping information by January 15th.
All subscriptions automatically renew on the same date you started your subscription. If readers purchase a subscription on the 28th of the month, the subscription will always renew on the 28th. Subscribers have the ability to skip, pause, or cancel their subscription anytime.
Yes! A book subscription is the perfect gift; this one comes with some extra advocacy information that will interest just about anyone! Gift the gift of discourse! When we see that a gift subscription is purchased, we will add an extra little card in their first delivery so they'll know it is a special gift just for them from you!

Shipping is currently $6 regardless of the box subscription chosen. Shipping costs will be shown in the checkout process. This fee helps to pay for the shipping and packing materials necessary to ensure your books and advocacy information make it to you safely!
Yes! You can easily skip a renewal or cancel by logging into your account. Please make sure to do so before your subscription renewal date.
Words in Action is more than a book subscription service. We are hoping that many subscribers own and or have read the banned books that will be sent. In the box will be valuable advocacy information that we are hoping you will share with friends and family. In the event that you already have the book, we hope that you will pass it along. Banned books are the perfect addition to tiny free libraries, schools, and libraries.

All of the advocacy information has been carefully researched and collected from trusted organizations and nonprofits. It is our goal to share useful information, free of bias in an easy-to-access format for all readers. Children's book boxes will include information that is accessible to children.
We are trying to keep these authors a secret but we know you'll have heard of most, if not all of them! When we approach authors to do the curation, we simply ask them: Please choose books that you believe every person should read and tell us why.
Our action item for 2024 is banned or challenged books. Will this continue into 2025? Possibly, it will depend on the state of books being banned and challenged across the country. Before the end of 2024, we will announce if our call to action changes.
